Alex joined Abel + Imray in 2018 and is based in the London office.  Previously Alex spent four years at another IP firm, including an in-house secondment to an IP department of a company providing advanced video compression hardware and software.  While covering a broad range of subject matter, Alex specialises in computer-implemented inventions, including image and video processing, AI and machine learning systems, healthcare apps, telecommunications, control systems, and virtual and augmented reality systems. Alex also has experience in 3D printing technologies, medical devices, battery technology, and aerospace technologies.

Prior to joining the patent profession, Alex worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge.  His research involved developing novel optical and automated imaging techniques to study the invasion of human red blood cells by malaria parasites.

Alex is experienced in drafting and prosecuting patent applications to grant, in particular in the UK, Europe, and the US.  He has also advised on various infringement issues, including analysis and claim charting of standard-essential patents, as well as oppositions before the European Patent Office.  Alex enjoys working closely with clients, be they individual inventors or in-house patent departments, to provide practical advice on how IP can best work for them.
