Scientific Background

Chris has a master’s degree in chemistry which included a final year project working on the synthesis of nucleoside phosphoramidites for enzymatic studies. He then completed a DPhil in cardiovascular medicinal chemistry funded by the British Heart Foundation where he developed novel atorvastatin analogues aimed at reducing muscle-related side effects. This led on to a postdoctoral project where he investigated how mutations in the skeletal muscle ryanodine receptor disrupt cellular calcium handling. His PhD and postdoctoral work resulted in 5 publications in high quality scientific journals.

Before joining Abel + Imray, Chris worked in-house at an AI-enabled drug discovery company where he gained experience in patent prosecution, trade secret protection and invention capture across a variety of therapeutic areas. Prior to this he was a trainee patent attorney at other London based private practice firm.

Outside of work, Chris is an internationally qualified sailing umpire and officiated at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
