Merlin joined Abel + Imray in 2020 and is based in the Bath office. Previously Merlin spent a number of years at another IP firm. Merlin has experience in optics, electronics, semiconductor fabrication, oil and gas, and software.
Prior to joining the patent profession, Merlin completed a doctorate at the University of Oxford. He conducted research in the field of quantum optics and published a number of papers relating to quantum tomography, in addition to presenting experimental results at international conferences.
Merlin has experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications to grant, in particular in the UK, Europe and the US. He also has experience of opposition proceedings before the European Patent Office, in addition to providing freedom to operate opinions.
