Simon joined Abel + Imray in 2003 and is based in our Cardiff Office. After completing his Ph.D. Simon spent four years as a research scientist in liquid crystal display technology at the Defence Evaluation and Research Agency and, subsequently, five years in the patent profession within the Intellectual Property Rights Group of the Defence Procurement Agency, including working on Section 22 patent applications. This experience has provided a valuable insight into the research and development process and the challenges this presents.
Simon handles patent work in the chemical and mechanical areas, including microfluidics and aerospace, some biochemical work, and various electrochemical and cell-related fields. This includes conventional batteries, fuel cells, and photovoltaics. He has wide experience of the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the European Patent Office and in the other major industrial countries. He has extensive experience of intellectual property agreements, with particular involvement in patent licensing and other patent-related agreements.
